There is an unfortunate conflict between the technology of modern software .NET and the Crystal Reports component in RE that causes the corruption of the batch report documents. A simple workaround is to select 'export', the top left icon on the control report (see screenshot below); and choose 'acrobat file'. This will create a PDF of the report in a perfectly readable format.
