If you are using a Data Source this isn't a Excel/CSV file, it can be tricky to work out which field to use when mapping your template without having a direct reference to consult. Most of the Data Sources that Importacular offers are connectors to a 3rd Party using that 3rd Party's API. When you set the criteria in the connector, the API decides what is brought back into Importacular. If there are a lot of fields being offered, it isn't always clear which fields are pertinent.

To overcome this, we recommend using Importacular's Export and Anonymising Data tool. This extracts the data that you have drawn down from the Data Source's API and places it into a Excel file with all the exact same field/column headers.

With the data in a spreadsheet, you can now consider what which field to use, based on the data the field/column it contains.

To use this tool, Select the Data Source and populate the criteria as you normally would, ensuring that that data is pulled across. When you get to the screen that ask you to select or create a Template and Control Report, head to the 'File' top menu and select 'Export and Anonymise data...'.

This tool was designed to aid the support desk, allowing you to anonymise your data in a useful way to assist in reviewing templates without sharing actual data subject data. Since the purpose of using it in this context is just to consider what field to use when building or editing your template, you will not need to anonymise anything. Simply press 'Export Data', then give it a name and select the location of where the file will be saved to.

Once exported, open up the newly created Excel file and review it for field consideration.
