When setting up your Criteria Sets, you may wish to establish a look up of a Postcode/Zip Code to find suitable matches. However, postcodes/zip codes can often appear in many different formats in your RE and your data source. Moreover, you can also put in place data transformations at the field-setting level that transforms the format of the data source into one that is the 'correct' format, ready to be placed in your Raiser's Edge.
With that in mind, it is worth highlighting how the Criteria Set finds suitable matches.
Assuming that the information present in your Raiser's Edge is correct, Importacular will look at the Data Source and seek to find a match.
If the Data Source's fields setting have been set to add a leading zero if there are only four numbers (US Zip code) or apply the standard format, including a space in the middle of a postcode (UK, Canada and Australia), then the Criteria Sets will look towards the transformed data and not directly from the Data Source.
However, if the data in your Raiser's Edge is not in the 'Correct' format, and you have set the source data to be imported to be the correct format, then Importacular will struggle to find a match and , depending on your address setting, may result in a new address being added tot he record.
For UK, Canadian and Australian postcodes, there is an option to look up Postcodes 'All stripped of spaces', which can help solve the problem.
For US zip codes, if your Raiser's Edge zip codes don't include a leading zero for codes that only contain four digits, and you want to import zip code with the leading zero, you might need to consider performing a data audit to find and change these records in a separate activity. Alternatively, you may need to change your Criteria Sets and rely on other address fields instead.
