When the exception message reads "Error reported from RE on saving the record from the area map "Constituent". The reported error was: A duplicate phone number and phone type exists. Remove the duplicate to save the record" this means that the settings that you have selected for your phone number/email address/link in your mapping is creating a duplicate of what you have in Raiser's Edge already.  You can resolve this exception using several different means (which is most appropriate will depend upon your data policies and standards).


1) You can change your Business Rules in Configuration of Raiser's Edge to allow multiple phone numbers of the same type.


2) Beginning in version 4.9, you have the option to set up a phone hierarchy on the Area settings for your phone mapping (please note that since your hierarchy likely differs between different imports, this does need to be setup for every phone mapping).  


3) If you are in a version prior to 4.9 or the phone hierarchy does not fully meet your data objective, you make adjustments to your Area Settings.  Review your Area Settings for your Phone/Email/Link mapping.  Check your Match settings to see what constitutes a Match (we generally recommend matching based upon Number, but you should follow your data standards).  

 

Once you've set your Match Settings, review what happens when a Phone/Email/Link mapping matches data in Raiser's Edge.  If you do not want any updates to be made to phone numbers that already exist in Raiser's Edge, choose "DO NOT add new phone when existing match found."  This will keep your records as is and will avoid the exception.


4)  If you need to be able to update existing phone/email/link records, you will again want to review your Match settings. Once you've set your Match Settings, select "Add new phone ONLY when no existing match found (otherwise update matched phone)".

Then, make sure that you've set the field settings for the Phone Type to not update existing phone numbers on existing constituents.


Please note that it is still possible to receive this message when importing if the record in Raiser's Edge already contains duplicate phone numbers/email addresses.  This is a function of Raiser's Edge with regard to your Business Rule and not due to Importacular.
