Lookup by Alias is a Constituent Area Setting that allows you to use an Alias to search Raiser's Edge for existing constituents without mapping that data to the Surname/Last Name field.
After you've selected this option, you will need to adjust your Criteria Sets to ensure that they are looking up constituents by Alias.
