This error crept into into v3.0 of Importacular. Previously when a user didn't want to add a constituent code for an existing constituent then the mapping would be set up as follows:

Using this set up now causes the error.

Instead the new method should be used. From the area settings there are now two new check boxes that can be selected as shown below:
